MARKETING STRATEGY : Marketing Tools for Business SuccessFocus on developing the right mindset and marketing strategy to creating a successful business, which includes effectively defining your audience and developing a compelling revelation. It is important to note that in the "art" of marketing, the first two stages (the audience and revelation) are critical to ensuring business success. Without these two elements, everything else will fall apart. The most common questions revolve around what are the best marketing tools instead of what is the right marketing strategy. Which vehicle is better? Should I use Yellow Pages or the newspaper? Are flyers better than direct mail? These questions can only be answered effectively if you have clearly defined your audience and what message will resonate. Marketing tools typically don't fail unless the strategy is flawed. That being said, many of the mass marketing tools are limited in their effectiveness unless you have a very clear strategy and deep enough pockets to make an impact. Some of the most cost-effective and impactful tools are often the most unknown and under-leveraged by businesses. These include: - Referral marketing -- This is one of the most credible forms of marketing with some of the highest conversion rates. It is often ineffective because there is no formal process in place. How many times have you met someone or asked for a referral but nothing ever came of it? The fact is people just get busy and forget. Create a marketing system that formalizes the program and drives awareness. It must be measurable and provide value to the person referring business. With a little focus you may be surprised with the results. - Joint mailers -- The average response rate to direct mail is 0.2 per cent which can be effective if you have deep enough pockets to send thousands. So how can you dramatically increase the response rate while reducing cost? Find a complementary business that fits with your company image and can offer meaningful value to your prospects. By sharing marketing mailing services / lists and the cost of mailing, you can cost-effectively increase your reach and response. - Leverage your strengths -- Marketing is all about education. Educate people on the need and offer free information to establish yourself as the expert. Focus on education and not selling. Common approaches to establish yourself as the expert include publishing a book (e-books make this very cost effective), writing a newsletter or providing some other form of education. Understand your audience and be creative to educate in a way that fits their style. Make a commitment to pick one approach that best fits your audience, message and budget. Stay focused and develop a system to execute and measure results.
